Help with drink

02/11/2009 : I am 50 years old, have since teen age indulged in drink and tobbaco, also some cannabis for a couple of years when I was 20ish. In my late 20s I gave up smoking cigarettes on a regular basis, only succumbing when under the influence of alcohol, maybe once or twice a year, and have had maybe two or three more serious relapses that lasts a month or so each during the last 30 years. In the last 4 years I have smoked only 3 cigarettes. With respect to drinking on the other hand allthough, I do not go to the pub on a regular basis, I have slowly developed a habit of drinking at home.
It began about 15 years ago when I worked in Germany and great bear was available really cheap, and opening a bottle when getting in from work became a habit. Since then I have been through wet and dry phases, but I am finding that when I am in a wet phase I cannot stop drinking until I a have had too much, I know I am deliberatly drinking, in fact when my wife is away it is the first thing that I think of. I may drink every day for two to three weeks, until I get sick of it and force myself to stop, and go through another dry phase, which could last for months.
Eventually for some reason I will start again and even after one day I know I will not be able to stop for a while. It is as if I have to get something out of my system. I dont know why I am doing this, I have nothing to complain about, I have a great wife and three great kids, a good job. What is worring me is the possible damage to my health and the fact that unlike my success in stoping smoking which was painless, every time I try to stop drinking the relapse is quite fierce in terms of the amount and frequency that I want to drink, when I fail.
I am not sure if this is an addiction or what is going on, has does anybody recognise these spymptoms. I am not rolling around drunk just nicely anethestized.

06/11/2009 : Hi, I have been going out with this wonderful girl from my office for 3 weeks. It took me ages to get the courage to ask her out but I did it. She wants me to go to a dance class with the her. I have only danced a bit when I am drunk and cannot imagine dancing in front of starngers without a drink. I do not know what to do.

07/11/2009 : I am a 22 yearold girl. I am taking a year out of university and am working on the south coast of France. I have been here for 4 months and am living a fantastic life as a waitress in a posh restaurant. I have a French boyfriend now. This is the first time I have lived away form home and my Mum an Dad are coming to visit and stay with me in a couple of weeks. They have only ever been to Spain on package holidays and I am scared that they will be emabarassing. I love them but how can I stpo them coming and spoiling everything?

08/11/2009 : I have a 17 year old son who left home last year. He comes home with his washing every Sunday. Recently his behaviour has become strange. While his washing is going round in the machine he paces the kitchen talking non stop. He seems really woulnd up. Particularly as he has laways been out drinking the night before, he should have a hangover not be walking up an down our kitchen talking rubbish. How can I find out if he is on drugs?

08/11/2009 : I am 22 and my brother is 18. He has a girlfriend who is 10 years older than him She once told me that she wants to get pregnant by my brother. Recently she has put on weight and has started wearing massive jumpers. I think she may already be pregnant an hiding it. 08/11/2009 : My sister got divorced 11 years ago. She has had to bring up 2 boys more or less on her own. Recently her exhusband has been back on the scene, she divorced him for hitting her. It looks like she might get back with him. I do not think he has changed and he will hit her again. She won't listen to me. This whole situation put our family through hell before I could not forgive her if she made us all go through it again.

08/11/2009 : I have a son who just started university this year. He has always been shy and has not had many friends. I hoped he would meet some people at university. He seems to be able to do most of his course online, or so he tells me. This means he is out of the house even less than whenhe was at college. How can I get him to go? 08/11/2009 : For about a year now I have been working from home. At first this was good as I have a young son to look after and the firm organised it so I could work from home. The problem is I have put on 1.5 stone in that year. I eat all the time when I'm home alone. I can't stop thinking about the food in the kithchen all the time I am working until I have to go an get some. It may not sound like much but I can't stop once I start. The only way I can stop it is if I do not have any breakfast, that seems to stop me wanting to eat at all.

08/11/2009 : I have been working for a sales company for the last 6 months. The bos bullies everyone, some people seem to respond and work harder but it just freaks me out. When he shouts at me I either want to run away or punch him in his fat face. It definitely does not make me want to work harder for him. Last Monday someone phoned in sick. He drove around to their house and confronted them on their doorstep, the Police were called to our office in the end.I think he has anger management issues I think. 08/11/2009 : I am at my wits end. My teenage son started not coming home all night about 6 months ago. Since then his behaviour has slowly gone downhill. If In try and talk to him about it he either gets moody or just storms out maybe for a couple of days. How can I find out if eh is on drugs? Are there sites I can visit that could help?

08/11/2009 : I am a 38 year old man. I got married to a girl 10 years younger than me 9 motnhs ago. It was a whirlwind thing and it was mainly my idea to get married and the whole thing took on a life of its own and suddenly we were married. Assoon as ww were married I realised we should not have done it, it felt wrong, I hate the term husband. Also my wife has confessed to sleeping with someone else very early on in our relationship. She says that she wants a clean slate now that we are married. This just made me dislike the whole situation more, I find her revolting now and caan barely bring myself to touch her.
I do not know what to do. I have heard about annulments, are they easy to get? Can anyone tell me where to go to see about getting one? Or is it too late for that?

We know where he is he is staying with the family of his best friend they rang to tell us he was safe. He does not want to come home we says he is looking for something permanent. 08/11/2009 : My Dad is 76 and has been diagnosed with dementia. I visit him every day to make sure he is alright. I can see that within a year he isgoing to need full tome care. How do I go about finding a care home? We are going to have to sell his hiuse tompay for it I don't know how to tell him any of this. 09/11/2009 : My wifr died recently we had been married for 38 years. She had been ill for some time, I thought it would be a relief. But now she is gone I am sad through to my bones. When he goes his dad does not do children things, he take him to the pub or round to his friends house until late. My son finds this stressful and has told me that he does not wan to go. Now the worst of the crisis is over, we moved but I have not found a job yet. Should I come off the pills? I am scared that I might get depressed again. 09/11/2009 : I have a 48 year old son who wont leave home. He came back to stay with us when my hisband became ill which was a big help. But my husband died and he stayed. I did not mind at first but he does not have a job so there is not much chance of him moving out. He seems to have given up. He has even applied for something called a carers allowance from the job centre I thinkthis means that he gets paid for looking after me when I don't need looking after I just wish he would get out and get a life.

21/11/2009 : Hello, I have a problem that I really need help with. After years in the courts I won custody of aour daughter after her mother expeosed her to harm. Her mother is now more stable but seems to bed detioriorating again. Our daughter does not want to spend time with her at her house because she says it is scary, the house that is. Her mother was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder whic manifests in extreme paranoia. It is Mum who has made our daughter scared of her house by being paranoid. The court ordered that contact between our daughetr and her mum should take place but now our daughetr does not wan to go.
It was made plain to me by social services and the courts that it was up to me to decide if Mum was well enough to support conatct. I think that time has come. I am seeing her this afternoon and i am going ton try and convinece her that she should not stay ay her house as it frightens our daughter. The really big problem is that her mother does not have any insight into her illness. She verbally accepts the diagnosis but cannot recognise the symptoms when they appear. Wish me luck. Any advice would be good.

21/11/2009 : I have a 14 year old daughter and I found pregnancy test in the bathroom the other day. The bit that tells you whether you are pregnant was gone so I don't know. 24/11/2009 : Hello, I am an 18 year old first year student at University on London. I have come from Cornwall to study here. I cannot afford to live in halls or anywhere else for that matter and I may have to go home after Xmas. I cannot think of any way to raise any more money. My parents are telling me to give it all up an come and work in their gift shop in Falmouth. 25/11/2009 : Hello, we have just had a baby, we have been together for about 3 years and it happenned by accident although we ar both happy now that it did. I used to work just 3 days a week when I was ding that everything was fine, I helped out a lot and there was no problem. I now work 5 days a week and my wife is really unhappy about it she says I do not do enough. I am tierd when I get in but she still makes me get up during the night as much as her. I got seperated from my friends and this bloke from Liverpool stareted talking to me. I really liked him and he said why don't I go back to his apartment. Well it all kiocked off and I stayed with him for the rest of the time we were there. 25/11/2009 : My boyfriend went to University this year and now he has dumped me. Before he went he gave me a ring and said we would be together forever but now he says he needs time and space. I knew this would happen and my heart is broken. I do not know what to do he was the only one for me.

25/11/2009 : I am 20 and have been at work in a telesales job for the last year. I thought I was happy until my younger brother went to Uni. He tells me what a great time he is having and how he will have a better job than me when he gets back. Iwant to go to Uni now but my parents say I made my choice and I ave to stick to it. Can I get a grant or soemthing to got to Uni?

26/11/2009 : I was going to take a year off between College an University, I wish I had I had no idea how hard it was going to be. We are coming to the end of the first semester and I have done know work. I did not go to any lectures or seminars for the first few weeks and so I did not realise how much work there was. Now I have 3 weeks left till Xmas and the lecrurers won't give me the notes they handed out in class because I did not give them a reason for not going. I don't know what to do, how can I get the notes?

27/11/2009 : I live with my Grandmother in a block of flats. The other day there was a knock on our door and we opened it and a man who was obviously sick or on drugs was standing there, we were not frightened. As we were about to help him the Police arrived and dragged him off really violently there was no need for it. We tried to make them stop bu they told us to get lost. I am scared what happenned to him when he got to the Police station. Who can I tell about what I saw?

27/11/2009 : The house next door to ours has been empty for about 6 months. Recently some men have moved in but I am too scared tp ask if they are paying rent or just squatting. People come and go all the time. The same people came back 10 times a day and they do not look good. Should I talk to them and try to find out what is going on or just go straight to the Police?
